Robert Benson is a
pianist, vocalist, arranger and conductor, who has performed in
countless hotels, nightclubs, restaurants and theaters since 1975.
A 1977 graduate of the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago,
Illinois, he studied voice with David Austin and Dr. Lee Gustafson,
piano with Verna Trine, canon and fugue with Dr. Dean Kincaid,
orchestration with Dr. G. Nicholas Bullatt, choral conducting with Kenneth
Sanson, piano pedagogy with Grace Ryan and theory research with Stella
Roberts.
He has shared the stage with Mark Russell, Helen Forrest, Myron Cohen,
Chubby Checker, Jim Stafford, David Brenner, Rita Rudner, Tommy Tune, Red Buttons, the
Smothers Brothers, Jackie Mason, Wayne Newton, and others.
He is the creator of the vocal trio Stardust, the
Swing Sisters, Chevy & the Vettes, the Showstoppers, and the Chicago
Salon Quintet. He has created a great many large-scale custom musical
presentations for major corporate clients.
The 12 musician Robert Benson Orchestra presently performs for corporate dates and
society functions, and for occasional ballroom events.
A professional pianist since the age of 15, Mr. Benson has had
extended piano engagements at many popular Chicago restaurants,
including the Dairy (3 years), Ash Manor (1 year), Sage's on State, Burhops on LaSalle
(one year),
the Lion Bar, Westin Hotel, 18 months at the world-renowned Le Francais, five years at the Hyatt Regency Chicago,
14 years at the 900 N. Michigan building (Bloomingdales), and others too many to mention.
As pianist he has performed at hundreds of corporate
functions and private parties in every major Chicago hotel and
private club, including the University Club, The Racquet Club, Union
League Club, Casino Club, etc.
He has regularly conducted and performed with the Caesars Palace
Orchestra in Las Vegas, and in hotels and theaters in New York City,
Chicago, San Antonio, Atlanta, Orlando, Columbus, Milwaukee, San Diego,
Minneapolis, Washington DC, St. Louis, San Francisco, Nassau, etc.
